Renting A Dumpster Before A Move: Tips To Remember

From the basement and the garage to the shed and the attic, every home accumulates a lot of undesirables that really have no use. However, most homeowners don't realize just how many undesirables they have in their home until it comes time to move. You may be amazed by the volume of stuff you have that will no longer serve a purpose enough to warrant being packed along with you for a move. So renting a dumpster is a good idea anytime you are moving from one house to the next, especially if you've lived in your home for quite some time. Here are some general tips to follow regarding renting a dumpster during a move.

1. Reserve a dumpster in advance.

Waiting until the last minute to reserve a dumpster is never a good idea. You should try to schedule your dumpster rental as far in advance as possible to make sure that the dumpster rental company has the unit available that you're going to need. Some smaller waste management companies that offer dumpster rentals do not have a lot of units. Therefore, if you wait until the last minute there is a high possibility that you will not get the unit that you need. Just as you need to call in advance to reserve a moving truck, you also need to plan ahead and reserve your dumpster well in advance.

2. Figure in the cost of renting a dumpster and your moving expenses.

Dumpsters may be the least expensive of the items you have on your list of things to pay for while you move, but it is an extra expense nevertheless. Therefore, make sure you figure in the cost of renting a dumpster along with your moving expenses. You can usually get a price list from the dumpster rental company by giving them a call or taking out their website so you know how much money you can plan on spending to get the waste receptacle you need.

3. Don't arrange for pickup too late.

Many companies will rent out their dumpsters by the day or by the week. However, many of them will also ask that you give them a call when you are ready for the dumpster to be retrieved. Of course, it will be important that the dumpster is out of the way on the right date so the next resident can move right on in. Therefore, it is always best to make sure that you plan ahead and leave plenty of time for the dumpster to be picked up. Even though all dumpster rental companies make an effort to pick up their units when the customer calls, there will always be a chance for a delay.
